1990 was Brookside's ninth year of production.
Overview[]
Major storylines included the marriage of Sheila Grant and Billy Corkhill, and the departure of Sheila, Billy, and the Collins family.
House by House[]
5 Brookside Close[]
Chrissy mobilises the neighbours to protest against proposals for a parade of shops near the Close, but is unsuccessful. After being made redundant she gets a job as school secretary, much to her children's dismay. Owen recovers from his coma but is confined to a wheelchair. Sammy battles her drink problem, and by the end of the year is sober.
6 Brookside Close[]
Harry Cross moves to St. Helens and lets the bungalow to Mick, who has now been joined by his estranged wife, Josie. Mick catches a burglar trying to break into his children's bedroom and knocks him unconscious. He is shocked to find out he will be prosecuted for using 'undue force'.
7 Brookside Close[]
Caroline finds out that James has run up huge gambling debts and has also been stealing from her jewellery business. Panicking, James flees in Caroline's car, but is killed in a road accident in Aberdeen, which the police suspect was murder. Caroline leaves Liverpool, shortly followed by Michael and Alison, who emigrate to America. In September, Max and Patricia Farnham move in, together with son, Thomas, and live-in nanny, Margaret Clemence.
8 Brookside Close[]
Lucy returns from France, but doesn't get on with Louise. Paul and Annabelle decide against adopting Louise, and move to the Lake District. When Lucy leaves for France once more, Gordon moves in with colleague Judith. The Dixons arrive in October, only to upset the Farnhams with their garden full of 'junk'.
9 Brookside Close[]
Sue hopes to offset her guilt over Danny's paternity by trying to have a baby with Terry, but at the end of June, Terry finds he has a low sperm count and could not be Danny's father. He throws Sue and Danny out. However the distress caused by the death of Sue's mother brings them closer again, Terry stops the divorce proceedings, and ultimately asks Sue and Danny to come back. Jonathan moves to London and sells the house to Terry and Sue. Later, Barry Grant double-crosses Ricky and Kenny Fisher who kidnap Sue and Danny in retaliation, mistaking them for Barry's family. Barry negotiates their release, but ends up locked in a freezer on Christmas Day.
10 Brookside Close[]
Bobby asks Sheila for a divorce. Sheila then finds out that he has had his vasectomy reversed and that his new girlfriend is pregnant. Sheila agrees to marry Billy, and reveals that Bobby is not Barry's real father. Tracy and Barry begin a relationship, but on learning she is pregnant, Tracy decides to have a termination, which devastates Barry and Sheila. Jimmy and Billy start a feud with Godden, the man who murdered their brother, Frankie. As the feud escalates, Billy, Sheila and Claire leave for Basingstoke. Rod meets Diana Spence, a pharmacy assistant, and they start going out - but he keeps his occupation secret.

- 11th June - Following the axing of the Collins family, Gordon Collins makes his final appearance.
- 25th June - Following the axing of the Collins family, Paul Collins makes his final appearance.
- 10th August - Billy Corkhill and Sheila Grant marry.
- 10th September - Don Corkhill dies from unknown causes.
- 14th September - Doreen Corkhill leaves Brookside Close following the discovery of Billy Corkhill's part in the robbery. (Final appearance of the character).
- 21st September - Billy Corkhill leaves Brookside Close with wife Sheila, moving to Hampshire. (Final appearance of the characters, however, Sheila would later appear in Brookside: Friday the 13th)
- 8th October - Jane Harper dies in a car crash.

- 8th April - Doreen Sloane (Annabelle Collins) dies. Her death leads to the axing of the Collins family.
