←1980s 1982 1983→ |
1982 was Brookside's first year of production.
Overview[]
Major storylines included the arrival of the Collins family, and Karen Grant's relationship with thug Demon Duane. This year contained the show's first death, with Arthur Clarke dying of a heart attack in December.
House by House[]
5 Brookside Close[]
Union leader Bobby Grant is unhappy with management at his work, Fairbanks Engineering, and strike action begins over Christmas to prevent the loss of 200 jobs. Karen's boyfriend 'Demon' Duane tries to force her to have sex. Barry seeks revenge, but later, when Duane stabs him, he refuses to identify his attacker to police. The Grants stage a party at the end of the year, with the residents seeing in 1983 as they conga around the Close.
8 Brookside Close[]
The down-on-their-luck Collins family arrive at Brookside Close, downsizing from their plush lifestyle to find their house vandalised and their toilet stolen. Immediately they accuse Damon Grant, and in so doing, ensure their relationship with the Grants gets off on the wrong foot. Shortly after moving in, Paul returns from signing on to discover that they (along with the whole Close) have been burgled. Lucy is unhappy and bullied at her new school, but gains the upperhand wielding a hockey-stick. Upset at her family's reduced circumstances, she spends Christmas with friends on the Wirral. At the Grants' New Year's Eve party Annabelle talks Roger Huntington into helping her set up a Ratepayers Association.
9 Brookside Close[]
Highly-strung Roger Huntington is disturbed when, at a Law Society dinner, he sees a senior partner make a pass at his attractive wife, Heather. Prompted by the burglary, Roger installs an alarm, but the house is broken into again, and all the Christmas presents stolen.
10 Brookside Close[]
Wheeler-dealer Gavin and Petra Taylor are trying for a baby. Gavin is selling second-hand cookers from his garden, which annoys snooty Paul Collins and Roger Huntington.
